Mr. Townsend joined Gates Hudson in 2017. He brings 25 years of international marketing experience. He handles corporate communications, reputation management, social media, visual design (websites, ads, logos), copywriting, and email marketing. Prior to Gates Hudson, he served as both creative director and director of business development for two Washington DC advertising agencies (Zinc, 1999-2003 and SQN Branding, 2004-05) and ran his own practice for a decade (2006-2016). His projects in real estate and the building industry include Sotheby’s (2010), Keller Williams (2014), RLJ (Bob Johnson’s REIT, 2006), Leo A Daly Architects (1998-99), American Institute of Architects (1999-2003), Bovis LendLease (1998-2000), The National Building Museum (1999), and Latista (2012-14). Mr. Townsend has partnered with executives to strengthen 20 brands aged 75 to 275 years (Pfizer, Absolut Vodka, Universal Music Group, and American Red Cross to name four). He has been recognized for excellence by The Webbys, American Marketing Association, The Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), The Service Industry Advertising Awards (the SIAAs), PR Week magazine, Washington Business Journal, Northern Virginia Technology Council, and Kickstarter. In his spare time, he authors “small books” (20+ to date) and mentors rising marketers through the Everwise program (San Francisco). Mr. Townsend is a graduate of the University of Richmond (Fine Arts and Art History).
